Raku
As a pottery newbie I jumped at the chance to photograph my studios first Raku event! Raku, a style of Japanese pottery characterised by the removal of a clay object from the kiln at the height of firing & cooling it rapidly.
Beautiful colors & reactions are achieved by applying special glazes before firing & then by performing a few extra techniques on the piece as its cooling ie. dipping in water, touching items directly on to the hot surface or placing the piece inside a sealed container of combustible materials.
A great afternoon surrounded by fellow pottery people, documenting their works coming to life.
